Quest Frankston
Course Overview - Balint and Beyond Workshop
The Balint method was first developed in the 1950s in London by Dr. Michael Balint, a psychoanalyst, together with his wife Enid Balint, a psychoanalyst and social worker. It was originally created to support General Practitioners who were struggling to treat patients with complex presentations such as chronic pain and multiple co-morbidities. Its principles, however, have since proven valuable across a wide range of medical specialties.
This two-day interactive workshop will introduce and explore the Balint method in the context of intensive care and other demanding clinical environments. Participants will engage in small group sessions, facilitated discussions, and experiential learning designed to strengthen reflective practice, enhance understanding of the doctor–patient relationship, and improve resilience when faced with clinical and emotional challenges.
The program also focuses on strategies for sustaining wellbeing and professional growth, recognising the pressures of contemporary healthcare practice. Set in a unique location with sea-view rooms, the workshop provides both an inspiring learning experience and an opportunity to step back, reflect, and connect with colleagues.
