THURSDAY 27 NOVEMBER
EDUCATION DAY: Consultant/Specialist CCUS
Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) in the ICU.
A one-day practical workshop in echocardiography for adult ICU physicians
Congenital heart disease (CHD) affects ~1% of live births (up to 2–3% including bicuspid aortic valve), with survival to adulthood now approaching 90%. Over two-thirds of survivors have moderate to complex disease, and adults with CHD now outnumber paediatric cases globally. ICU admissions in this group are steadily rising, making it essential for adult intensivists to understand their unique physiology and acute presentations.
Join Dr Anil Gautam (Ironman and Paediatric Intensivist, Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide; DDU) for a one-day workshop designed for ICU physicians of any echocardiography skill level. This hands-on course will:
- Demystify ACHD and provide a systematic approach to echo in these patients
- Build confidence in acute ICU presentations.
- Imaging of key lesions: ASD, VSD, PFO, and coarctation
- Theory, case discussions, and bedside scanning
(Note: Advanced scanning of complex repairs will be addressed in a future course.)
If you have any level of echocardiography experience and want to upskill in ACHD, this workshop is for you. Please join us.
FRIDAY 28 NOVEMBER
