Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort
CICM 2-day Essential SOT Workshop
CICM is committed to Best Practice in Education, Training and Assessment. Our SOTs perform the crucial role of guiding and supporting our Trainees and are committed to this fundamental role.
The College acknowledges the importance of, and expectations for, highly trained SOTs. To achieve the level of training necessary, sufficient time is required to be able to emphasise the crucial role that SOTs have.
In this role Supervisors will:
Liaise with CICM, Trainees, unit staff and hospital authorities on matters related to training
Guide, support and coach Trainees, and facilitate opportunities for learning
Engage in feedback conversations with Trainees
Oversee Trainee performance and complete workplace-based assessments.
From 2024, the Essential SOT Workshop will be over 2 days. This is to allow for:
The development of supervisor identity
Time to gain deeper understanding of CICM training and College processes
Learning and applying new skills related to supervision and coaching
Providing an opportunity to connect and develop an SOT community of practice.
SOTs are required to participate in the Essential SOT workshop in the first 12 months of becoming an SOT. It is recommended that SOTs participate in a workshop every 5 years thereafter.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD):
By attending SOT workshops you can claim up to 12 hours of CPD under the Category 1 – Educational Activities. This activity can also be attributed to the program level requirements of Professionalism and Ethics.
