Event Description
Target audience: Nursing and medical staff working in Cath lab, ICU, Anaesthesia or Emergency Department who are involved in managing patients in cardiac catheterisation lab Course Information: This course is designed for members of the Cath lab team who wish to learn a novel, evidence-based approach to the resuscitation of Cardiology patients. Using a format similar to Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), this program (available here) will include didactic lectures as well as skills stations on topics such as intra-aortic balloon pump, use of mechanical CPR, and airway management. Simulation moulages will look at arrest and peri-arrest situations. Course Objectives: Identify unique features of the cardiology ‘Cath lab’ patient that warrant modifications to standard resuscitation technique Distinguish critical differences between protocols for ACLS versus REACT Discuss and make use of the 5 point plan in a team situation so as to successfully resuscitate a number of peri-arrest scenarios in simulation Learn about the effect of Human Factors in ‘Cath lab’ and recovery area scenarios and make use of these to improve team working in a cardiac arrest situation Demonstrate successful resuscitation of the arrested ‘Cath lab’ patient in under 5 minutes
