Want to learn the BASICs of clinical research?
Join us for a 2-day workshop developed and led by leading ICU researchers. This workshop will introduce you to key concepts in clinical research, including:
• Reviewing the literature
• Designing a study
• Writing a research protocol
• Ethical aspects of clinical research
• Statistics
• Data management
This course is designed for early-career, multidisciplinary researchers interested in clinical research – with particular focus on ICU. As with all BASICs courses, the emphasis is on practical application rather than theoretical knowledge. It is ideal for registrars planning a formal project or junior consultants aiming to incorporate research into their non-clinical portfolio. The workshop is also suitable for nurses and allied health professionals beginning a career in research.
The workshop will consist mainly of small group discussions on individual topics. Participants are expected to read the provided manual before attending. We encourage you to bring a research idea to the workshop, which can be workshopped with the faculty.
Date: Thursday 28 – Friday 29 August 2025 (catering provided for both days)
Venue: College of Intensive Care Medicine, Suite 201, 2 Porter Street, Prahran VIC 3181 (corner of Porter Street and High Street)
Cost: CICM members: $800 + GST | Non CICM: $850 + GST
