Troponins and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) are frequently ordered blood tests when it comes to assessing patients’ cardiovascular health. Troponins are used to assess for myocardial infarctions and BNP for severity of heart failure or heart wall stress. But is there any evidence that these tests are useful in the perioperative environment? To answer this question a literature review was conducted.
